The Valencia CF goalkeeper is on the shortlist for the world's best goalkeeper trophy
Valencia CF's Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or Yashin Trophy 2024. His great performances last season led him to be included in the list of nominees for the best goalkeeper in the world.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is nominated alongside Diogo Costa (FC Porto), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid CF), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa FC), Unai Simon (Athletic Club), Yann Sommer (FC Internazionale Milano) and Ronwen Williams (Sundowns).
The 2023-24 season, a brilliant campaign for Giorgi Mamardashvili
Throughout the 2023-24 season, Mamardashvili became the best goalkeeper in LALIGA EA Sports 23-24, the goalkeeper with the most consecutive starts in LALIGA (71) and broke his own record for most clean sheets (13) in the domestic competition. He was also the goalkeeper, along with Unai Simón, with the most penalty saves (3). He was also nominated for best Under-23 player of the month for March in LALIGA EA Sports 23-24.
At an international level, his enormous level helped him to shine with his national team (Georgia), standing out on his own merits as one of the sensations of the last European Championship, a competition in which he received the award for the best player in Georgia's match against the Czech Republic after achieving the second-best record of saves in a group stage match at a European Championship.
The Ballon d'Or 2024 gala will be held on 28 October at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
